Set Folder Permission for UserName via API

Recommended Posts

Hello,

i want to set permission for existing user via api.

the documentation shows a way to do this only by UserId.

What is the best way to get the UserId from a given UserName by API request?

If this is not possible, is there a easy way for a user to get his own userid from his dashboard?

thanks for any help :)

Hello,

We do not have a method in the API to retrieve the UserID for user accounts in Passwordstate unfortunately, but you can look them up on the screen Administration -> User Accounts.

You need to be a Security Administrator to do this though, so do you have some sort of standard naming convention for your User Accounts that your staff could reference?

You can sort of lookup UserIDs in the normal Passwords tab, if you go to apply some new permissions to a Password List here, but hopefully your naming convention would be a better option.

Hello Rankinc,

In version 9 you can certainly manage permissions on Folders and Password Lists, but this is using either the UserID, or SecurityGroupID or SecurityGroupName.

We do not have any plans to support managing permissions for the Username field for user accounts.

Hey,

I actually meant can you look up userID with the API yet or you still have to view in the web?

The context here is for the managing folder permissions API, you need userID (but can't look it up?)

Hello Rankinc,

No, you cannot lookup UserID's via the API. This can be done in the UI though, and in our experience, most organizations have a standard for their naming conventions, so lookups are generally not required - but fully understand if you do not operate this way.
